- why you chose this restaurant
- what type of food you ate there
- and explain why you enjoyed eating there
Start
I'd like to talk about a traditional restaurant in Isfahan called Shahrzad. I went there on a trip last spring.
Where it was
It's in the centre of Isfahan, near the famous square. It's on a busy street, but inside, it's quiet and beautiful.
Why you chose it
A friend who lives in Isfahan recommended it. He said that if I wanted to try real Isfahani food, this was the best place. It also had very good reviews online.
What you ate
I tried beryani, which is a famous local dish made of minced lamb, cooked and served on thin bread with fresh herbs. We also had a yoghurt drink called doogh and saffron ice cream for dessert.
Why you enjoyed it
I enjoyed it because everything was special. The restaurant looks like an old palace, with painted ceilings, mirrors and soft lights. The food was delicious, and the waiters were very polite and explained every dish. It felt like a real cultural experience, not just a meal.

Part 3 · Discussion
Restaurants and food production
Longer answers. About 30 to 45 seconds. Give your opinion, explain why, and give an example.
Why do people go to restaurants when they want to celebrate?
Going to a restaurant makes the day feel special. Nobody has to cook or wash dishes, so everyone can relax and enjoy the celebration. Restaurants also have a nice atmosphere and special food you don't make at home.
- makes the day feel specialmakes it different from normal days
- wash dishesclean plates and cups
- a nice atmospherea pleasant feeling
Which are more popular in your country, fast-food or traditional restaurants? Why?
Among young people, fast food is very popular, because it's quick and cheap. Families often prefer traditional restaurants, especially for weekend lunches. Kebab restaurants are probably the most popular of all.
- Among young people, …with young people
- quick and cheapfast and not expensive
- the most popular of allmore popular than all others
Is food in an expensive restaurant always better than food in a cheap one?
No, not always. Some of the best food I've eaten was in small, cheap places, where the owner cooks with love. Expensive restaurants often pay for the decoration and location. But they usually have higher hygiene standards.
- No, not always.a careful no
- cooks with lovecooks with care
- the decoration and locationhow it looks and where it is
- hygiene standardsrules about cleanliness
Will there be more or less choice of food in shops in the future?
I think there will be more choice. There will be new kinds of food, like plant-based meat and food from other countries. But some traditional foods might become more expensive because of climate change and water shortages.
- plant-based meatmeat made from plants
- might become more expensivemay cost more
- water shortagesnot enough water
What effects has modern technology had on the way food is produced?
Technology has made farming much more efficient. Machines do the work of many people, and new seeds grow faster. Food can be stored and transported for a long time. But some people worry about chemicals and food that is too processed.
- more efficientproducing more with less work
- stored and transportedkept and moved
- too processedchanged too much in factories
How important is it for a country to grow all the food it needs?
It's quite important for food security. If a country depends completely on imports, it can have problems during wars or crises. But it's not always possible, especially in dry countries. I think a country should produce its basic foods, like wheat.
- food securityhaving enough food for everyone
- depends completely on importsbuys all food from other countries
- crisesvery difficult situations
