Part 1 · Interview
Art
Short answers. About 20 to 30 seconds each. Answer, give a reason, add one detail.
Did you enjoy art lessons when you were a child? Why?
Yes, I loved them. Art was the only lesson where we could be free and messy. I especially liked painting with watercolours. My teacher always put our pictures on the classroom wall, which made me feel proud.

Do you ever draw or paint pictures now? Why?
Not really. I'm too busy, and to be honest, I don't think I'm very good. But sometimes I doodle in my notebook during long meetings. I'd like to take a painting class one day, just for fun.

You get 1 minute to prepare and then speak for 1 to 2 minutes. Follow the four points on the card in order.
Candidate task card
Describe a time when you visited a friend or family member at their workplace.
You should say:
- who you visited
- where this person worked
- why you visited this person's workplace
- and explain how you felt about visiting it
Start
I'd like to talk about the time I visited my aunt at her workplace. She's a baker, and it was a really interesting experience.
Who you visited
My aunt Mahin is my mother's younger sister. She's in her fifties, and she's one of the most hard-working people I know.
Where she works
She owns a small bakery in the old part of our city. She starts work at four in the morning, because people want fresh bread for breakfast.
Why you visited
I visited her last summer, because I was curious about how bread is made. She invited me to come early in the morning and help her. So I set my alarm for half past three, which was very hard!
How you felt
I felt amazed. The bakery was hot, and the work was physically hard. She and two workers made hundreds of loaves of bread in a few hours. I tried to shape the bread, but mine looked terrible, and everyone laughed. After that day, I respected her work much more. Now, every time I buy bread, I think about the people who get up so early to make it.

Workplaces and the value of work

What makes an office comfortable to work in?
Natural light is very important, and good air. Comfortable chairs and desks help people avoid back problems. A quiet area for focused work is useful too. And a nice kitchen or break room helps people relax and talk.

Is the building people work in more important than the colleagues they work with?

- colleagues are much more importanta clear opinion
- unfriendlynot kind or friendly

What would life be like if people didn't have to work?
At first, it might sound great, but I think many people would feel bored and lost. Work gives us a routine, a purpose and friends. People would probably find other activities, like art, sport or volunteering, to feel useful.
- it might sound greatit may seem very good
- bored and lostwithout interest or direction
- to feel usefulto feel that you help
Are all jobs equally important?
I think all jobs are important for society. We need doctors, but we also need cleaners, drivers and farmers. If cleaners stop working, a city becomes dirty in a few days. But some jobs get much more money and respect than others, which isn't always fair.
- equally importantthe same level of importance
