Do you usually celebrate your birthday?
Yes, but in a simple way. I usually have dinner with my family, and my mother makes a cake. Sometimes my friends take me out to a restaurant. I don't like big parties, because I don't like being the centre of attention.

Candidate task card
Describe a TV series which you enjoy watching.
You should say:
- what the series is about
- who acts in it
- how often it is on
- and explain why you enjoy watching it so much
Start
I'd like to talk about a TV series called Friends. It's an old American comedy, but I still enjoy watching it again and again.
What it is about
It's about six friends in their twenties who live in New York. It shows their daily lives, their jobs, their relationships and the funny situations they get into. Most scenes happen in their apartments or in a café called Central Perk.
Who acts in it
The main actors are Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer. Each character has a very different personality, which makes the show funny.
How often it is on
It finished many years ago, but you can watch all ten seasons on streaming services. I usually watch one or two episodes in the evening, before bed.
Why you enjoy it
I enjoy it because it always makes me laugh, even after a bad day. The episodes are short, only twenty minutes. It also helped my English a lot. The conversations are natural, and I learned many everyday expressions from it. Watching it feels like spending time with old friends.

What are the advantages of showing foreign programmes on TV?

Should governments control the number of foreign programmes on TV? Why?
I think a little control is okay, to support local film-makers. If TV shows only foreign programmes, our own industry can't grow. But too much control is not good, because people have the right to choose what they watch.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of TV being on 24 hours a day?
